The Stories Of Three Sisters
There are some cases RINJ Volunteers became involved with and for whatever reason more than a few volunteers who came to know the victims and survivors had strong emotional involvement. In doing this kind of volunteer work, there are people and events you will never forget. We honour three of those people here.

Oksana Makar, We Love You and Promise To Never Forget You
Oksana Makar, 11 June 1993 – 29 March 2012
“The drunk three rapists who violated Oksana Makar were worried that she would go to the police, and to avoid this — all were in a state of intoxication — they took further steps. The men tried to strangle Ms. Makar with a cord, leaving her barely conscious. Then they wrapped her in a blanket and dragged her to a nearby construction site, where they set her on fire. She was discovered the next morning, still conscious, by a passing motorist. She had burns to 55% of her body. She endured the amputation of her arm and horrible pain across her entire body. We had hoped Oksana Makar would survive. We had a team ready to do plastic surgery. Doctors and family along with hundreds of thousands of prayers failed to defeat the evil that was done. Oksana died after fighting to live for three weeks. ”
Toronto, March 31, 2012
The murder of Oksana Makar, after she was raped, strangled, set alight and left to die by three men, took place in Mykolaiv (Ukraine) on 8 March 2012. Oksana Makar, aged 18, died three weeks later.
Belvedere Vodka ran disgusting pro-rape advertising you see elsewhere on this page while Oksana was fighting for her life.
The video Oksana Makar shot with her mom has had a few of our ladies in tears for days. We were raising money to help her and had even found a cosmetic surgery clinic in Toronto, Canada willing to help out. But Oksana died. her funeral this morning… now there are broken hearts and tears all around the world.
The rape culture that allowed and even promoted this sadistic atrocity must end.
As we prayed for Oksana’s recovery, we read advertisements like the one posted by Belvedere Vodka making a joke about rape and drinking. Belevedere Vodka said in pictures that drunken violence toward women is sexy.
Our press release of noon today urges Belvedere Vodka which promoted drunken rape in its controversial ads, step up and help Oksana’s family. In the alternative RINJ has threatened a lawsuit. At some point, the escalation of rape must be put in check. If a large corporation needs to fall in order to do that, then let’s bring a few down. http://rinj.org/release/March30_2012.htm
